About the Workshop:
Punch needle is essentially painting with yarn. It is real fun and addictive so be careful you have been warned!! Depending on the cushion finish you would like we will be punching with wool directly on to wool fabric (upcycled wool fabric!!) or monks cloth. With wool fabric it is such an exciting rewarding method of punching as it provides instant wool gratification and the real beauty is you don’t have to punch any background. The wool fabric you will choose at the start of the class will be the background to your project. The punch needle glides easily through the wool backing and creates a wonderful effect! With the monks cloth you just have to punch a little bit more and use a different needle as you have to fill in the background but the end results are worth it!! We will be using the Oxford Punch Needle (a tool invented by Amy Oxford of the Oxford Rug Hooking School in Vermont USA) and different types of wool double knitting or other similar weight fine yarns. There will be several designs to choose from or design your own.
The main focus of the class time will be spent on the punching itself, not on the finishing techniques for turning your work into a cushion. There will be a demonstration at the end of class for an easy way to turn your piece into a cushion. If time allows we will do our best to get all cushions sewed up so you’ll have a beautiful piece to take home with you.
-This workshop is perfect for beginners or those with some prior experience of this technique.
-All materials (frames, wool, and punch needle) will be provided for the duration of the workshop.
-Punch needle supplies & kits will be available to purchase at the end of the day if you'd like to kit yourself to carry on this wonderful craft at home. Can accept cash or card payments. Visit www.wildwoolway.com for details of what kits are available.
